Sociology is a popular course and at present there are 235 students following the syllabus. Student success rates in examinations are very good.

The Department has a strong reputation for being supportive and welcoming. New colleagues receive practical assistance with books, teaching resources and any other support they may need. Staff work closely together to plan schemes of work, share resources and exchange good practice. The Department also maintains strong links with local schools and employers. Courses are well resourced and taught in large, dedicated teaching rooms. Innovative approaches to teaching and learning are welcomed and supported.

We aim to build constructive and supportive relationships with our students. In keeping with Queen Mary’s tradition, staff and students are on first-name terms. Teachers are committed to providing a high level of support and give generously of their time to help students succeed.

Our priorities are to maintain and build on our strong examination outcomes, sustain high levels of student retention; and provide an engaging, interesting and active learning experience for every student.
